Faith: God Connects
We’ve been talking about your starting point in faith. But what is faith? How can you tell if you have any? How do you know if you have enough? Faith always has an object. It has to lean up against something. Section 1 - What is faith?
Section 2 - How do we get faith? A. Faith is a gift that God gives. John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-- Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works so that no one can boast. Romans 10:17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
Section 3 - How does faith grow BIG?
Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
John 6:5-11 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" 6He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. 7 Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" 8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 9 "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" 10 Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. 11Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. 1 Peter 1:6-7 You may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith-- of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-- may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
