Faith Full: Part 1 - "Practically Speaking"

Series: Faith Full: Fueling your faith in a world running on empty

If believing things was enough to make a difference in life, we would all be fit, wealthy, disciplined and well rested. But our problem isn’t a lack of information. Our problem is a lack of application. It’s one thing to believe and enjoy practical teaching. But gaining knowledge is not enough to grow our faith —applying it is. And when your obedience intersects with God’s faithfulness, your faith grows. But when you merely listen to God’s Word, you’re setting your life up for a crash.

  • Lack of trust broke our relationship with God. Trust in Jesus restores it.

Matthew 8:6-9

"Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering." Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him." The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

Matthew 8:10

When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

Mark 6:5-6

He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. And he was amazed at their lack of faith.

Matthew 7:24

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Matthew 7:25

The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

Matthew 7:26-27

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

  • Believing can be deceiving. Doing makes the difference.

Matthew 7:28-29

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,  because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
