Ephesians 4:2-6

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Q: Why is baptism important?

Romans 6:3-4

Don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Matthew 28:19

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…

Ephesians 5:25-26

Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word…

Titus 3:5

He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

  • Through baptism, the Holy Spirit saves by giving you a new  by uniting you with the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Q: Is baptism a “Get Out of Hell Free” card?

Mark 16:16

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

  •  alone saves.

Q: What is the proper method of baptism?

Mark 1:9-11

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

Acts 8:39

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

  • Neither Scripture, nor church history,  a specific method of water application.

Q: Why do some churches baptize infants, but other churches only baptize adults?

Acts 2:38-39

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
